Ways and means of drainage with electropneumatic and liquid seal drains and examples of application at Most-Ležáky site

Natural or artificial slopes are very often affected by problems with instability. Such problems can lead to endanger of existing properties, excavations or structures under construction and to increase in expenses. The prime trigger for land slipping is a high groundwater level. The method of dewatering is important. Some traditional drainage techniques are proven methods. However, two innovative deep drainage systems, the Siphon and the Electropneumatic drains, could have certain advantages. During the remediation works of the former brown coal open mine "Most-Lezaky", several signs of instability at certain parts of the treated slopes were observed. To avoid the groundwater to infiltrate lower situated parts of the slopes and underlaying geological structures, dewatering by innovative gravity driven deep drainage by Siphon drains was adopted. Case study introducing the design and construction of the drainage technique to control slope stability of the site is described below.
