As part of the recent trend, even in the mining of brown coal, specific methods of surface mining of brown coal and overburden, their transport, storage and warehousing are compared and economically evaluated. In this context, considerable emphasis is placed on mining companies not only on reducing the environmental impact of mining, but also on the overall efficiency of mining operations, the balance of which can be improved by increasing the operational reliability of individual components of technological units and reducing operating costs. The aim of this article is to briefly introduce the reader to the involvement of state-of-the-art systems...

Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2021, 61(2)
Technistone, a.s. processes mineral raw materials based on silica and various silicates for its production of hardened stone in Hradec Králové. A significant part of these quartz raw materials is mined in a deep way by Minerali Industriali. As part of the project in the TRIO research and development support program of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, project number: FV30114, the use of a new white silica raw material, mined in Scotland but finally modified for processing in Technistone by the domestic company Czech Silicat, was designed and verified. Another European quartz deposit deep-mined in Sondalo, Italy, is also described here.
Mineralogy of the Smolné Pece locality with a focus on the occurrence of cordierite and its pseudomorphosis
RNDr. Michal Řehoř, Ph.D.
Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2021, 61(2)
The Ore Mountains area is not rich in pegmatites with more interesting mineralogy. One of the few exceptions is the pegmatite body south of Smolné Pec village near Nejdek. In the past, feldspar and quartz were mined here, as a raw material for porcelain production. The article focuses on a brief description of the site and its mineralization. The main attention is paid to the exceptional discovery of cordierite in the region. The article follows up on more extensive research into the occurrence of cordierite and its pseudomorphosis, which took place in the Czech Republic in 2020.
