Areas after open pit brown coal mining in the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin reach large dimensions and so they are a remarkable phenomenon in the landscape. Nowadays much of them have already been reclaimed. A technical reclamation creating of an application of fertilizable rocks is most often or exclusively carried out, followed by a biological reclamation, forestal and agricultural. Return to the more natural state is the matter of near tens of years for greater part of the territory. However, it still is not sure which kind of land-management is the best for non-productive functions of the landscape. The objective of the project is to evaluate complexly the state of areas comparising dumps parts with various history of the care after finishing mining processes. It will be considered following the pedological, geological and hydrogeological studies, the studies of phytocoenoses and zoocoenoses and the analysis of microbiological characteristics under which stational conditions have favourable or negative influence on soil quality, diversity and structure of living systems respectively. The results of the work can be exercised by landscape management not only in the North Western Bohemia, but in similar regions in the world as well. First results of this research are shown in this article.
