The paper deals with the prognosis of the thermal gradient and rock temperature. The importance of rock massive temperature is increasing in relation with the increasing depth of coal exploited in underground mines. Higher rock temperatures have an adverse effect on working conditions in underground mines. Thus, the prognosis of rock temperature has to be done very carefully when designing new mining levels, especially when working is done under the main haulage level. Rock temperature is the basic parameter for designing mine ventilation and conditioning in order to guarantee that these systems will be effective from the economic as well as safety point of view. For this purpose, the MineTemp register has been developed on the SCILAB platform, which enables to perform such prognosis.
