Production and non-production functions of anthropogenic soils at dumps in the Sokolov Coal Basin
- ČZU v Praze, Fakulta agrobiologie, potravinových a přírodních zdrojů
The landscape of the Sokolov region has been in the focus of interest concerning reclamation since the 50th of the 20th century. The reclamation of the landscape devastated by brown coal mining in northwest of Bohemia (regions of Karlovy Vary and ústí) including agricultural, forestry, hydro, and other types of reclamations has been a prerequisite for the restoration of post-mining agricultural landscape. The whole system of research and its practical implementation was aimed at regeneration of soil, water, and vegetation in order to attain these aims. Agriculture and forestry in these regions can be restored only if production soils are reclaimed. According to the complex characteristics of anthropogenic soils (geology, mineralogy, soil chemistry, hydropedology), these soils are suitable for reclamation of production soils that are necessary for agriculture and forestry in the post-mining period. For this reason, we consider the new intentions of using succession on dump sites to be unadvisable.
