Abandonment of Kohinoor Mine - part 2, abandonment of old workings up to 2009

The paper briefly describes the last period of the abandonment of Kohinoor Mine, which included the remaining opening vertical workings, mine shafts K 1 and MR 1, and adjacent mine workings. In contrast to backfilling, a traditional way of opening mine workings abandonment, the mine shaft MR 1 was plugged and pumping columns were installed. The purpose of such an approach was other utilisation of the shaft as a source of mine water. The paper describes the sequence of old workings abandonment and the way of opening vertical workings abandonment in the period from 2008 to 2009. Different ways of opening mine workings abandonment are included; either using consolidated material for backfilling the full height of the pit shaft or installing a shaft plug.
