Petr Beran
Sokolovská uhelná, právní nástupce, a.s., Sokolov

The paper describes the mining and processing of iron ores, ceramic raw materials, and brown coal in the territory of the town Chodov in the Sokolov Basin. The first records of coal mining came from the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. Railway development (1870) promoted a huge expansion of mining operations. At that time, strong mining corporations came to Chodov. The Richard Mine was the major mine extracting yearly more than 100 000 tons of coal till 1926. Other minor mines were closed by 1942.
