The paper presents results of a research on physical, chemical, and technological properties of brown coal combustion ash produced in dry bottom boiler and fluidized bed boiler. Possible utilisation of produced ash is determined by the presence of mineral formations which have pozzolanic properties. Research methods based on electron microscopy enable to determine individual parameters of tested types of ash. Mineralogical composition of different phases of ash indicates that mineral formations play an active role in solidification processes. The pozzolanic and cementitious properties of ash (as an ingredient in cement or concrete) are determined by its mineralogical, not chemical composition.
