The results from the second phase of the research project funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic are presented in this paper. A prototype penetration sensor for continuous monitoring of temperature and basic composition of pore gas was developed and tested for large-scale coal dumps at coal mines, heating plants, and power plants. The design of the penetration sensor enables to draw the pore gas into a sampling jar (bag) for subsequent laboratory analyses of pore gas composition.
