prof. Ing. Vladimír Slivka, CSc., dr. h. c., Ing. Jiří Mališ, Ph.D., Ing. Michal Poňavič

The article presents the CEEMIR project, whose main aim is the revision of the inventory of mineral resources in the Czech Republic, which belongs among the EU's critical commodities, including selection of appropriate mineral deposits and the design of effective and environmentally friendly method of their production and treatment. The choice of raw materials is based on the one hand on the perspective of raw material policy of Czech Republic and on the other hand on the raw material policy of EC. Critical raw materials are defined in the updated document from the May 2014 "Report on Critical raw materials for the EU". Many of critical commodities occur on the territory of the Czech Republic either in the form of the classic mineral raw material or in the form of waste stored on dumps and tailings ponds. One of the objectives of the project is their quantification and evaluation of real possibilities of their exploitation not only from the perspective of deposit geological conditions, but also from the point of view of the current technologies of mining and beneficiation, environmental, economic and legislative conditions. The article summarizes the background and main aims of the project and provides the selected achieved results within the first two years of solution.
