Co-pyrolysis of brown coal and biomass mixtures with subsequent modification of volatile products

Volatile pyrolysis products contain among others also organic compounds containing nitrogen, sulphur or oxygen heteroatoms. As a result of this, liquid pyrolysis products in particular become unstable and susceptible to secondary reactions (polymerization, polycondensation, polyaddition, etc.), which leads to an increase of average molecular weight or even to the production of solid matter. This paper examines catalytic refining of volatile pyrolysis products from Czech lignite and biomass mixtures for further utilization. The volatile products were refined in gas phase in a separately heated thermal-catalytic reactor filled with Ni-W based hydrocracking catalyst. The catalytic reactor was connected directly at the output of volatile compounds from the pyrolysis reactor.
