Continual dust monitoring in the coal reservoirs

Ing. David Hirman, Ing. Marek Herčzík, Ph.D., Jaromír Matějů

Continuous dust meters are used to monitor the development of dust in the internal areas of the coal reservoirs. The purpose is to monitor dust content in terms of high dust levels approaching the lower explosion limit values (LEL). This monitoring enables early detection of dangerous conditions disturbing the safe operation. The main goal is to provide sufficient time to take precautionary measures. The article provides a brief description of the theory of explosion, the nature of explosiveness of flammable dusts, factors influencing the explosiveness of combustible dust, conditions of occurrence of coal dust on finishing and crushing plants. At the end of the article, the real use of the GM01-C continuous dust meter is introduced.
