Evaluation of biomass production of poplars and willows on Lochocice spoiler heap-mine after 27 years of growth observation

Ing. Jan Weger, Ph.D., Bc. Jaroslav Bubeník, Ing. Bc. Kamila Vávrová, Ph.D.

The experimental plantation was established of fast-growing trees on an eastern slope of recultivated spoiler heap-mine Lochočice. Quantitative parameters have been measured since the end of first growing season in 1995. The plantation was harvested in 3year and 12year rotations in 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2010. The average annual yield was 5.5 and 3.6 t(dry)/ha/yr of six best evaluated poplar clones in 3year rotation after four harvests (2001-2010) and in 12year rotation respectively. Only registered variety of P. nigra × P. simonii 'Kaktu' maintained good vitality after 27 years of coppicing with 5 harvests in 3year rotation in condition of spoiler heap-mine. This variety can be recommended for biomass production and recultivation of spoiler heap-mines in the Lower-Ore Mountains region.
