Restoration of the instrumentation in the Research Institute of brown coal a.s. - reconstruction of torsional shear apparatus

Ing. Pavel Schmidt

The Research Institute of brown coal a.s. performs in its accredited testing lab the regular restoration of standard measuring techniques, in particular of the costly and investment ambitious items, with a view to their estimated service life in accordance with the approved long-term recovery plan, which is currently valid until the year 2020. One of the more ambitious investment was even a torsional shear unit for determination of the shear strength parameters of soil samples, which was operated by the laboratory of rock testing. Most components of this unit showed the status on to beyond its time of life. The reconstruction of the existing instrument was chosen based on comparison with the high cost of the possible purchase of a completely new unit and also due to necessary repairs and improvement of the metrological characteristics of the current device.
