The alluvial system of Libouš affected by synsedimentary peat compaction (lower Miocene, Most Basin)
The paper describes geological structure and the development of the one of evolution stages of the Miocene alluvial system of so called "Žatec Delta". This alluvial step influenced peat formation in the area of the current open pit mine "Doly Nástup Tušimice" (Libouš opencast) in the western part of the Most Basin. Asymetric beds of silty channel deposits together with formation of growth faults indicates influence of synsedimentary compaction of underlying peat. Growth faults were formed especially on the periphery of fluvial channel in places of the highest gradient of river sediment load. The most intense synsedimentary compaction of underlying peat took place beneath the densest sediments (silty muds and sands). The direction of the water stream was affected by occurrences of pre-existing structural elements beneath the peat swamp, now coal.
