Mechanical slag dewatering method at Mělník power plant - part 1
Ing. Jaromír Täuber, Ing. Jaroslav Svoboda
Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2012, 52(3)
The paper describes the method of mechanical slag dewatering, where the process water circulates in a closed circuit. This unique method was implemented at Mělník power plant according to a documentation developed by the following companies: Výzkumný ústav pro hnědé uhlí a.s. and CAB minerals, spol. s r.o. The slag is dewatered with the use of a vibratory screen separator and a hydrocyclone. Water that conveys the slag from boiler to pump stations is refined and returned to the process. The refining process has several stages. The first stage is represented by hydrocyclones, the last stage is flocculation including dosing station and sedimentation basins.
Simulation of spontaneous combustion of coal in coal stockpiles
prof. Ing. Boleslav Taraba, CSc., Ing. Vlastimil Moni, Ph.D.
Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2012, 52(3)
The paper presents a review of basic findings on the simulation of spontaneous combustion of coal. The review was made within the research project No. TA01020351 "Research of possible approaches to predicting centres of spontaneous combustion of coal in brown coal heaps", funded by the ALFA Programme. The in-situ research focuses on the spontaneous combustion process and its behaviour in coal stockpiles.

Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2012, 52(3)
Discoveries of petrified trees are very important for better understanding of the geological development of the present territory of the Czech Republic. They are surviving witnesses of ancient life and help us to determine the age of geological strata. The first part of the paper deals with the oldest discovery of a petrified tree in the territory of the Czech state in the mines of the town Jáchymov and with other important historical discoveries. The second part of the paper assesses chances of future discoveries of petrified trees in the Czech Republic. The main attention is paid to the area of the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin and the Sokolov...
History of line dewatering systems at the open-pit mine Vršany
Míla Pletichová, Ing. Lukáš Žižka
Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2012, 52(3)
The paper deals with the history of underground aquifer dewatering systems at the open-pit mine Vršany during its opening and mining phase. Safe mining operations at the bottom of the mine were secured by the construction of line dewatering systems - so called dewatering barriers - sets of drainage boreholes arranged in a line.
