The article describes the direct measurement of the torque on input shafts pinions of the wheel drive gearbox of the excavator KU 800.18/K99, which was implemented at the beginning of the year 2016. The direct measurement utilises connection of the classic strain-gauge sensors with the modern measuring microelectronic technology. The article provides the basic principles of measurement, description of the installation of sensors and measuring apparatus, measuring results and lessons learned.

The article summarizes existing knowledge on the occurrence, geological and geotechnical characteristics of difficult mineable positions in the overburden soils of the Most basin and the possibilities of their detection. The provided summary is the partial output of the first phase of the European research project focused on the highest possible reduction in the fault frequency of bucket wheel excavators working in these difficult mining conditions including the non-minable positions and the geological structure with excessive cutting resistance.
The alluvial system of Libouš affected by synsedimentary peat compaction (lower Miocene, Most Basin)

The paper describes geological structure and the development of the one of evolution stages of the Miocene alluvial system of so called "Žatec Delta". This alluvial step influenced peat formation in the area of the current open pit mine "Doly Nástup Tušimice" (Libouš opencast) in the western part of the Most Basin. Asymetric beds of silty channel deposits together with formation of growth faults indicates influence of synsedimentary compaction of underlying peat.
