Article Types
- Research Papers: Research papers submitted to iSET Journal should align with the Aims and Scope of the journal and typically range between 5,000 and 10,000 words in length. Manuscripts may include specific case studies, provided these contribute theoretical insight and demonstrate broad systemic relevance to the transformation of mining and industrial regions.
- Review Articles: Review Articles should align with the Aims and Scope of the journal and should not normally exceed 25,000 words. They are expected to provide a critical, balanced, and integrative overview of a significant topic relevant to the transformation of mining and industrial regions. Reviews may include new interpretations or data syntheses, and should aim to inform a broad interdisciplinary readership. Authors are encouraged to consult with the Editor-in-Chief prior to submission. Invited Reviews may also be commissioned by the Editorial Board.
- Research Breakthroughs: Research Breakthroughs are short-format articles presenting significant new findings, innovations, or methodological advances. They are intended for the rapid communication of timely and original scientific developments with high potential impact. Manuscripts should not exceed 5 pages in length, corresponding to approximately 2,000–2,500 words. Submissions undergo an expedited peer review process to ensure swift publication of key scientific advances.
Dissemination and Thematic Issues
Dissemination Papers and Thematic Issues are special collections dedicated to a specific topic, research project, or strategic area of inquiry. They provide a platform for publishing collective studies, handbooks, guidelines, or casebooks that support the scientific dissemination, uptake, and communication of research outcomes—particularly those arising from major initiatives such as Horizon Europe, the Research Fund for Coal and Steel, national Just Transition programmes, or similar frameworks.
- Dissemination Issues are typically proposed by authors. Interested contributors should contact the Editor-in-Chief (journal@iset.org) to discuss the scope and structure of the proposed issue. Final approval for publication is subject to the decision of the Editorial Board.
- Thematic Issues are initiated by the Editor-in-Chief or proposed by the Editorial Board. In such cases, authors may be invited to contribute to the issue based on their expertise and relevance to the selected theme.
Manuscript Preparation and Submission
Writing and Formatting
Authors are strongly encouraged to use the official manuscript templates available for download below. To facilitate editorial processing, the manuscript should be submitted in a version without embedded graphics. Instead of inserting figures, tables, or charts directly into the text, authors are asked to indicate their intended placement clearly within the manuscript (e.g., “[Figure 1 here]”).
Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s editorial system via the section titled “Manuscript Submission.”
Author Information
Each submission must include the full name of all authors, along with their institutional affiliation (including full address). At least one valid email address (preferably for the corresponding author) must be provided.
Abstract and Keywords
The abstract should clearly summarize the objectives, methods, results, and conclusions of the study. Avoid the use of abbreviations and citations. The maximum length is 150 words or 1,000 characters including spaces.
Provide up to six keywords. Keywords should be specific and relevant to the content of the article.
References
All sources cited in the manuscript must be included in the reference list, and all entries in the reference list must be cited in the text. Properly formatted and verifiable references enhance the visibility and discoverability of your work through indexing services such as Scopus, Crossref, and others.
- References cited in the abstract must be provided in full.
- Unpublished results and personal communications should generally not be included in the reference list. If mentioned in the text, they must be clearly identified as such (e.g., “unpublished results” or “personal communication”).
- If unpublished results or personal communications are exceptionally included in the reference list, they must follow the journal’s reference style, with the appropriate designation in place of the publication year.
- References cited as “in press” must refer to works that have been formally accepted for publication.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all reference data prior to submission. Incorrect author names, titles, journal names, publication years, or page numbers may prevent proper indexing and linking.
- The use of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) is strongly encouraged to ensure persistent and reliable access to cited sources
Reference list entries should be alphabetized by the last names of the first author of each work.
