Sediments from water-bearing subsidence troughs in the region of Karvinsko were studied in 2008 within a pilot project focused onsix PAH congeners and their total amount. Different study sites in the region of Karvinsko were included such as a water body used forfishing (Velký Loucký rybník), former tailings pond (Mokroš), or a water body where mine waste, which is often used for reclamationin this region, was disposed (Barbora). PAH's levels in sediments were compared with ambient air concentrations in the studied area.Air pollution load by selected PAH's in the regions of Karvinsko and Mostecko is also assessed.

Biodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Sediments

Ing. Lucie Nezvalová, Mgr. Eva Pertile, Ph.D., prof. Ing. Peter Fečko, CSc., doc. Ing. Vladimír Čablík, Ph.D.

Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2010, 50(1)

The paper focuses on the PAH's biodegradation in sediments of Černý příkop river. PAH's biodegradation efficiency using aerobicbacteria Pseudomonas putida and Rhodococcus sp. was studied. Rhodococcus sp. exhibited higher biodegradation efficiency.

Mechanical Parameters of Mixtures used for Civil Engineering and Land Reclamation and thein Development during the First Year of Monitoring

Ing. Pavel Schmidt, Ing. Petr Šašek, Ph.D.

Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2010, 50(1)

Coal combustion products (CCP's), i.e. by-products originating from fossil fuel combustion, are very often used in building industry. Concerning the northern Bohemia, a region markedly affected by surface coal mining, these products can also be used for land reclamation purposes. A monitoring site was established in the framework of the research project "Research of physical and chemical properties of mass influenced by mining and using coal and their influence on the environment in the north-western Bohemia region", where different mixtures of coal combustion by-products were applied. Qualitative parameters of the mixtures in the environment of aggressive...

Breakouts of Quicksand into Historic Galleries Occurring in the Area of the Open-pit Mine Bílina as a Result of Surface Drilling Operations

Ing. Karel Mach, Ph.D.

Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2010, 50(1)

Underground and opencast brown-coal exploitation sometimes brings complications caused by aquiferous sandy bodls existing within the coal seam overburden. Quicksand breakouts are related to the coal exploitation during all its history. There is a special type of the breakout when quicksand breaks to a historic underground mine workings through a bore hole. The paper summarises events of this type in the Bílina mine area during last 30 years and one of these events is described in detail - a quicksand breakout at the BA57 bore hole in 2007.

Operational Measuring on Bucket Wheel Excavators

doc. Ing. Jiří Fries, Ph.D., doc. Ing. František Helebrant, CSc., Ing. Vlastimil Moni, Ing. Petr Klouda

Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2010, 50(1)

The paper informs about measurements conducted on bucket wheel excavator K 2000. The measurements were performed in order to verify measuring procedures on wheel excavator SchRs 1320. These works were made within the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the research project No. FT-TA4/018: Modern trends of increasing of equipment reliability for open-cast mining of utility minerals. The main goals of the project are following: verification of the design of the upper structure including a unified caterpillar undercarriage for mining of economic minerals and overburden; enhancement of excavator operational reliability; energy intensity minimization;...

Abandonment of mining at the mine of Kohinoor - 1st stage: abandonment of mine workings until 2003

Ing. Jiří Varady

Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2010, 50(1)

The paper brings an overview of the history of the mine of Kohinoor since the opening until the abandonment, except for the abandonment of the last two vertical workings - shafts K 1 and MR 1, which were not abandoned due to a change in the mine abandonment project. The order of mine workings abandonment as well as the way of the abandonment of the opening vertical mine workings is described. Overall, the abandonment of nine mine workings is characterized here, since 1967 until 2003. Moreover, the time sequence of using different backfilling methods is also mentioned, i.e. partial backfilling using loose material, using loose material in the full height...

Abroad Experience of Regional Policy in the Case of Revitalization of the Region Porúří

Ing. Jaroslav Zahálka, CSc., Ing. Martin Neruda, Ph.D.

Zpravodaj Hnědé uhlí 2010, 50(1)

A lot of studies and projects have been published in the Czech Republic after 1990 which have one thing in common: environmental, structural and economical revitalization of so called structurally affected regions, i.e. regions affected by phase-out of mining and heavy industry. Abroad experience and knowledge could be very valuable as similar process took place abroad in last decades of the 20th century and in some areas this process is still in progress. The study focuses on legislative, organizational and institutional tools or instruments, which were successful. One of abroad examples is represented by Germany, especially by the industrial area...
